Hong Kong, South Korea Abu Dhabi, and Mexico with Nkem Chukwumerije

Nkem Chukwumerije shares her story of traveling, studying, working and living abroad in Hong Kong, South Korea, Abu Dhabi, and Mexico.

Meet Nkem

Nkem Chukwumerije (she/they) is a writer, transformational program designer, artist, teacher, and energy cultivation practitioner. Her style of being in the world is intentional, (com)passionate, idealistic, pleasure-centered, and wisdom-centered; these attributes are woven throughout her art and projects, the programs she creates, and the way she works with her communities. Through her work and her passions, Nkem hopes other beings will gain a deeper relation to themselves, a sense of community, and more access to ‘aha’ moments leading them to greater personal and spiritual enlightenment.

What resources (books, blogs, services, apps) did you utilize to help you go abroad & thrive abroad?

I mostly watched YouTube videos of other expats having moved to the country I was looking to, or preparing to, move to. When I moved to Korea and Abu Dhabi, I had the benefit of companies or institutions on the ground that would help me organize myself and meet me when I arrived.

What is the motto (affirmation, prayer, poem, song lyrics, etc.) that you live by?

"Keep it positive and let yourself be changed." - On a spontaneous trip to Montreal one year, my friend and I decided to perform in an improv show. One of the regular performers gave us this advice and it always stayed with me.
