Meet Kory
Kory M. Saunders, she, her, hers, grew up in Orange, New Jersey. She is a graduate of
Hampton University where she earned a B.S. in Marketing and B.A. in Spanish. During her
matriculation, she completed a two-week short term program in Spain and a 5-week intensive
language program in Mexico. Post-graduation from Hampton University, she completed an
additional two-week short-term program in Brazil. After working in the corporate sector, Kory
went to graduate school and earned an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina Wilmington
and an M.A. in International Business (International Marketing) from the University of Valencia
in Spain.
It was during graduate school that Kory realized that she wanted to shift careers and transition
into the study abroad field. Kory saw the correlation between her skill set and her commitment
to global education. Her first foray into the field came when she served as the Study Abroad
Coordinator in the Center for Global Engagement at Columbus State University. While there she
took part in the 13th cohort of the NAFSA Academy. She attributes her strong foundation in this
field to the support that she received while at CSU.
Kory currently serves as the Assistant Director for Strategic Marketing, Diversity, and Inclusion in
the Study Abroad Office at NC State University. She manages an exchange portfolio in the
Americas and advises students who are nominated to study in this region. She coordinates the
short term programs for the College of Agriculture and Life Science. Kory has a strong
demonstrated commitment to making study abroad accessible for all students, especially those
from underserved backgrounds. She has built strong relationships with colleagues on campus
and created programming to amplify the voices and experiences of students from diverse
backgrounds. She is the current chair of the Diversity Abroad Task Force for Race and Ethnicity
and has just been named a finalist for the 2020 Diversity Abroad Rising Star in International
Education Award. Kory started Kultural Kurators a website that highlights people of color and
diverse backgrounds as they explore the world through studying, interning, living, and working
abroad. Kory is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
