Raising A Black Son Abroad with Ani Lacy in Bath, England

In this episode of Flourish in the Foreign, Ani Lacy, a previous guest on the show, shares her realization of needing a safety net, emphasizing their lack of governmental and familial support, and highlighting how her relied solely on themselves and their son during challenging times.

Meet Ani

Ani Lacy is a transdisciplinary artist whose practice explores migration, cultural memory, and resilience. Working primarily with wild clay and terracotta, Ani is deeply attuned to the inherent impermanence of clay as a metaphor for the fluidity of personal and cultural narratives.

After completing a Master of Fine Arts from Bath Spa University in 2021, she went on to exhibit her work in Bath, London, New York, and Japan, including a residency with the BEPPU Project in Kyushu, Japan, where she immersed herself in local clay practices. She’s given public talks on her artistic practice in Japan and England, and in Spring 2023 Ani was a featured artist in A Gathering Together, a literary journal dedicated to elevating works that resonate across time and space.

From her studio in Bath, Ani’s artistic practice continues to explore the boundaries of the materiality of clay, focusing on themes of loss, memory, and cultural reclamation.
