Meet Dana
Dana is the Founder of Ancestors unKnown, an education social enterprise that provides schools, nonprofit organizations, corporations, and other institutions with curriculum and workshops related to identity, family history research, and other untold histories. After spending nearly 10 years in the education nonprofit sector in the U.S., Dana moved from New York City to the Netherlands in 2011, where she earned a Master’s in Sociology at the University of Amsterdam. Her studies focused on the significance of family history research among people who descend from survivors of slavery, which revealed both shared and divergent experiences among Black people throughout the African diaspora. Since then, she’s all about introducing new audiences to some of the world’s untold histories and the power of genealogy research. While launching the business and trying by all means to live her best life, Dana has traveled plenty and lived in several cities, including Amsterdam, Paramaribo (Suriname), The Hague, and Bristol (UK), where she’s currently based.
