Unbothered in the United Kingdom with Ani Lacy
SEASON 4 EPISODE 5 |Flourish in the Foreign - Black Women Living & Thriving Abroad
Ani shares the traumatizing event that was the catalyst of her journey abroad. She shares stories about moving to Mexico, and Morocco, studying in England, and moving with her autistic son.
Meet Ani:
“Ani Lacy (b. 1983) is an artist who has studied history, philosophy, and fine art. Her interest is in ceramic practices transmitted through family lines and through traditional apprenticeships, often in rural or working-class communities. She has made work around the effects of migration and colonialism on ceramic production within specific geographic regions at various points in history. Artistically she works at the intersection of migration and memory, her art practice uses industrial ceramic production techniques (like slipcasting, mold making, and decal production), film, and photography. She explores questions around visual culture, language, permanence, migration, memory, and labor through all aspects of her work. She has lived in England since 2020. You can find out more on her website www.anilacy.com or on Instagram where she is @anilacyceramics.”
